Travis and Piper

Travis is a drifter, originally from Florida he and his dog Piper have traveled the United States by foot and hitch hiking. After going across the states numerous times and hiking nearly the entire Pacific Crest Trail Travis remains on the road. After spending just 5 minutes with this character it became clear that this man was happy with his lifestyle choice. When I asked him why he does what he does. He said this was partly for the adventure of seeing the world by foot andto recover from a leg injury he suffered in the past. He doesn't know when his journey will be over but when it does come o an end, Travis plans on writing a book about his experiences. I feel this man is the most successful person I have photographed on this project. What gives it away? His smile. Was the dentist smiling in his portrait? Was the car salesman? How could this man, who is shown to have very little material goods with him, living life out in the wild manage to break a smile? Because he is doing what truly makes him happy.
