| Ever since I was a little kid I have had a strong interest in photography. My dad would always bring his film camera with us on family outings and like most little kids....well at least the cool ones...I would want to hold the camera and document our adventures. While at the time, I didn't really understand the importance or potential that the art of photography had, I knew that being the photographer made me feel powerful and grown up and looking back on it, I feel that these roots of finding happiness through photography have probably made the biggest impact on my life. Over time, this interest grew to a passion. I got my own camera and started bringing it with me everywhere I went. I shot everything I could, from school, to sporting events, to lounging with my friends and family and going road trips, everywhere I went, everything I did, my camera accompanied me. When nothing interesting would be going on, I would make something interesting happen for the sake of taking a cool photo. Over time I learned what I loved to shoot, and what just wasn't for me. With this passion came dedication. I've spent countless hours learning, researching and practicing photography. I missed my Senior Prom for an advertising shoot, I left my High school graduation early to document an event. During my schools football games I wasn't up in the crowd cheering my school on with the rest of my class, I was down on the sidelines taking photos. This dedication is fueled by my passion. In the end of the day I feel these sacrifices were well worth it. My ultimate goal through photography is pretty simple; to be recognized and respected as an established photographer by as many people as possible. If I can take a photograph that someone somewhere finds interesting and takes the time out of their life to view my work than I feel I have succeeded as a photographer. Photography has become just a way of life to me, and through this way of life I have met many fascinating people and had a lot of awesome experiences hat I could not have had without being a photographer. I live by myself in Seattle, I do my own dishes, feed my sea monkeys, do my laundry and occasionally attempt to cook something tasty. My camera bag still travels with me everywhere I go. And while at the age of 18, I am not that far off from being the little kid I once was, I am ready and driven to take the photography world by storm and create a name for myself. I am Jimmy Hickey and thank you for accompanying me on this journey. |
